17.2 Podcast rss feed

The podcast feed produced by WordPress and Wpcast is compatible with any external podcast reader

What is important to know: to be a valid podcast feed, your XML page needs to include the tag “enclosure”.

This tag is created when the post contains an mp3 track.

WHAT YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER:

Once you add an mp3 to the content, the Enclosure value is generated from the mp3 URL.
If you change the mp3 in a post, the Enclosure value WILL NOT BE REFRESHED.

WHY? because the value requires a heavy process and WordPress caches the result for faster processing. So, if you need to change the MP3 associated to a podcast episode, you will want to create a new post and delete the old one, in order to update the “enclosure” value.

This is a basic WordPress functionality, and it has strict rules.
The theme does not add any modification to that functionality and the theme is as well not responsible for any malfunctioning with your Podcast RSS feed.

For more info and if you need support with your podcasting feed, please check the official WordPress support regarding this function:

The most important public for a podcaster are subscribers. This is what every podcaster should aim at: increasing the amount of peaple that you can reach with every new podcast.

This is why we put so much effort in providing the best support with the theme to increase your feed subscribers.

Regular listeners always use feed readers. A feed reader can be installed as a browser plugin, or as a phone app, or as stand-alone desktop software.

Once you have a reader installed, it will 99% intercept the feed links from a podcast, and automatically alert the listener once a new content is available, which spikes your listeners when you publish a podcast.

The type of feed reader is up to the visitor/listener as its purpose is, indeed, to facilitate the cunsumption of the listening paterial by adequating its functionalities on the listener’s habits.

So, each listener choses its own software to subscribe.

The feed linked in the theme’s episodes or series is automatically generated for every category/serie/author you can have on the website.

This makes the feed targeted on the specific request of the user, or you can have just the global feed of the site.

So, for regular podcast listeners, this button will instantly include your feed in the reader, and the listener will be notified immediately once you have a new content.

The best suggestion I can give you is, based also on your possible external feed services, to make a page where you suggest to your readers which are the best readers they can install, offering different options to cover both pc/mac and phone/browser feed readers.

This is possibley the most powerful took of the theme, and will help you grow the audience in no time, with the correct “suggestion” to your listeners 😉

The feed links also have another VERY important function: they will streamline the spider’s job while indexing your feeds and help you adding the podcast to external services as Google Podcast in a very short time.
