{"id":6438,"date":"2017-12-16T10:45:06","date_gmt":"2017-12-16T10:45:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qantumthemes.xyz\/manuals\/fluid\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=6438"},"modified":"2020-11-18T10:23:37","modified_gmt":"2020-11-18T10:23:37","slug":"6-0-how-to-translate-theme-and-plugins","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/manuals.qantumthemes.xyz\/kentha\/knowledge-base\/6-0-how-to-translate-theme-and-plugins\/","title":{"rendered":"6.0 How to translate theme and plugins"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 id=\"important\" >Important<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Translation files can sometimes be deleted when you update the theme, you have to keep the translation file in your computer to reupload it when updating the theme.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The translation method is useful also to change text strings<\/strong> of the theme or plugins even if you are in the same language of the theme, as you can create a translation for your same language, example en_EN or en_US.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"translations-and-child-themes\" >Translations and Child themes<\/h2>\n<p>If using the child theme as per documentation, please make sure to copy the translation files in kentha-child\/languages.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-to-create-a-translation\" >How to create a translation<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Language translation is possible using the standard WordPress translation function and the free plugin PoEdit. Not every string needs to be translated, you can create only the strings you want.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This theme is very easy to translate as the .mo .po (pot) files are provided within the language sub folder of the theme.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Unzip or copy the theme folder locally<\/li>\n<li>In the main theme folder in wp-content\/themes\/kentha you\u2019ll find a \u201c<strong>languages<\/strong>\u201d folder.It contains a model to translate the theme using Poedit or other .mo .po translation softwares. The model is the .pot file<\/li>\n<li>Start up <strong>Poedit.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In <strong>Poedit<\/strong> goto File -&gt; <strong>New from POT\/PO file\u2026<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Select and <strong>Open the pot file<\/strong> from the languages folder.<\/li>\n<li>Enter your name, email address, your language and country (i.e. French fr_FR, German de_DE) to the setting form. For the correct language identifier chech the column <strong>WP Locale <a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/polyglots\/teams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">at this page<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Click the Update button<\/strong> in the main Poedit UI.<\/li>\n<li>Save the file:\n<ol>\n<li>For a plugin like filename-xx_XX.po with xx_XX for your language and country.<\/li>\n<li>For a theme xx_XX.po<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Click File &gt; Create .mo<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In WordPress Admin, \u00a0settings -&gt; general set the language of your country.<\/li>\n<li>Optionally copy the files in kentha-child\/languages<\/li>\n<li>That\u2019s it, go to your WordPress blog and see your translation in action. They are fancy and fast to use, but are known to be trouble-makers.
